Probus Club of Poole
The Probus Club of Poole Welcomes You
Make New Friends in your Retirement
Poole Probus offers retired and semi-retired Professional and Business men an opportunity to enjoy a monthly lunch following an informative talk by interesting speakers, who during the year, cover a wide range of subjects. In the summer and at Christmas the Club holds a lunch for members, wives and partners. We also hold a monthly coffee morning and several organised outings. The coffee mornings and outings can be attended by wives and partners. We are a friendly club and we welcome new members.
Over the last 44 years the Club has been helping its members make new friends with like-minded fellows in their retirement.
Who We Are
Professional and Business men enjoying their retirement.
We are a friendly and sociable club for retired and semi-retired Professional and Business men living in and around the Poole area. It is an ideal way for those who have spent their working life locally or who have moved to Poole, to socialise with like-minded people who live in the area. The Club was founded in 1980.
The Probus Club of Poole and The Probus Club of Parkstone
Poole Probus and Parkstone Probus were in discussion over the last six months of 2023 to see if we could find a mutually acceptable arrangement whereby the two clubs could be merged.
We are pleased to say that those discussions have borne fruit and with effect from our joint AGM on 16th January 2024 the two clubs completed the formalities and have been merged into one club, retaining the single name of The Probus Club of Poole. This arrangement increased the full membership of Poole Probus to 66 with ages ranging from mid 60s upwards; the joint club will use The Connaught Hotel for their future functions.
We are very pleased that this has worked out so well and wish to thank Parkstone Probus management for their openness and efforts in making the negotiations a success. For background on the history of Probus click here.
Our members have a very wide range of employment history including aviation, naval architecture, accounting & finance, engineering, oil industry, the armed forces, medicine, electronics, the legal profession and judiciary, civil servants, police, shipping, surveying, construction & civil engineering, hotel industry, IT and transport research. All this makes for interesting companions and engaging conversation.
What We Offer
The opportunity to meet with like-minded people in a relaxed environment. Retirement is a time for new horizons. To make new friends. To learn something new. To have fun!
A monthly meeting with a talk followed by lunch
Members of the Club attend a monthly meeting that starts at 10.45 am at The Connaught Hotel in Bournemouth. Members arrive about 10 am for a cup of coffee or tea and biscuits with time to chat to one another before the start of the meeting. After a brief update about the Club's activities by the Chairman and other Officers, there is a talk by an invited speaker on a topic of interest to members. This is followed by refreshment in the bar before a two course luncheon is served. The meeting finishes at about 2 pm. For a list of lunch meeting dates in 2024 click here. Don't forget to collect a car park pass from Hotel Reception and place it on your car windscreen or you may be fined.

In June and December we hold Ladies Lunches for members, wives and partners.

Club Committee
Each Probus Club is autonomous. Poole Probus operates with a simple structure and its affairs are managed by a committee drawn from members who are elected to their posts annually at the annual general meeting which is held in January. The Chairman and Vice Chairman serve for two years and other members of the Committee generally stay in post for three years. For details of the current Committee and Officers please click here.
The role of the President is that of elder statesman and advisor to the Committee. It is an honorary position held for a period of two years.
